Clifton and the Cliff Mine

History has it that the great Cliff was discovered when a prospector slipped down the face of a greenstone bluff and painfull injured his behind on a projecting chunk of solid copper.  The Cliff was organized in 1844 and was the first copper mine opened in the Lake Superior district since the pre-historic days of the mound-builders, and the first mine to pay a dividend from Lake Superior copper.  A must read for anyone interested in the history of the Copper Country.
